Dry And Oily Skin Treatment

Skin types can be broadly classified into five categories. These are oily, sensitive, dry, combination, and sun-damaged. This article mainly concentrates on dry and oily skin treatment.

Introduction

The amount of oil that your skin produces is the main basis that helps to identify your skin type. Once your skin type has been determined, respective skin treatments can be followed to keep your skin healthy and fresh. In case you have a dry skin, anti-ageing and anti-wrinkle creams should be used regularly to avoid development of fine wrinkles and lines. To avoid the problems related with oily skin, beauty products that can control or absorb the excessive natural oil produced by your body should be used. Make sure that you buy only branded beauty products for your skin. It is also advisable to go in for natural or organic skin treatments instead of chemical based beauty products.

Oily skin

People with oily skin have a shiny skin that has large pores. Such skin types are more prone to blemishes, pimples, and blackheads.Oily skin productssuch as cucumber face packs, lemon cleansers, Rose cleansers, and mineral cleansing concentrates should be used on a regular basis. Even oily skin requires moisturizing but the moisturizer used should not be oil based. It should be specifically prepared for people with oily skin. Organic masks such as herbal clay masks or turmeric masks can also be used to reduce oil production and prevent acne.

Dry skin treatment

People with dry skin have lower production of sebum in their body that makes it difficult for the skin to retain an appropriate amount of moisture. Such people often complain of tightness in the skin. Such skin types are susceptible to fine wrinkles, red patches on the skin, and flaking. Due to high buildup of dead skin, people with dry skin also suffer from skin dullness. Dry Skin Products such as natural moisturizers or dry skin face packs should be used regularly to keep the skin healthy. Mild cleansers should be used instead of soaps. Regular massage with a body and face lotion can also help to treat dryness of your skin.

Treating Acute Acne Outbursts The Right Way

September 4, 2010 by

Acne is a very popular illness that lots of people have, particularly on their face. Sadly many teenagers have acne full faces and getting rid of this problem is quite difficult at times. Many people feel that they don’t want to show their face out in the world due to the way it looks with those many pimples and zits all over the skin.

What many people don’t realize is that the problem can be cause by over the counter medication, such as pills, creams and lotions, that should treat the very condition they have: acne. Most of these have various chemicals in them that could actually make their pimples become worse. This is because the skin might be allergic and sensitive to some of the chemical compounds in the various products. So how can you get rid of acne if your face is full of it? Here are some tips to get started.

If you think that the sudden flare up of acne on your face happened due to some over the counter pills or creams you started taking recently, stop those right away. Don’t use anything on your face but simply soap and water. Even the soap should be natural instead of full of chemicals and deodorants.

It also could be that you are allergic to something you are eating. Jot down all foods you’re eating every day and start keeping notes. You can stop some foods, and then stop others while reintroducing the first ones in your diet. If the food is the main cause, you will soon see a change on your skin and face. Also make sure to eat lots of fiber, fruits and vegetables and avoid eating junk food or greasy stuff. And make sure to drink plenty of water to release the toxins from your body.

And also don’t forget to avoid any stress. Stress is a major cause of skin problems, along with insomnia and restless sleep. By sleeping well during the night, by having enough sleep you will give your body and skin that rest that it needs to regenerate itself. By having a healthier skin, your acne will also diminish with tim.

Can Keratosis Pilaris Really Be Cured?

September 3, 2010 by

Keratosis Pilaris is a very common, benign skin ailment, which appears as small, rough bumps on the skin around hair follicles. They normally manifest themselves on the upper arms, but have been known to appear on buttocks and thighs and can occur anywhere on the body, with the exception of palms of hands, and soles of feet. Globally, there are many sufferers, and due to frequent misdiagnosis, many of those are not aware that they have it. Current figures suggest that as many as 50% of adults and 80% of adolescents are affected, and the severity can vary from person to person. It is non-infectious, but tends to run in families, and been observed passing from one generation to another. Thus it is described as a chronic genetic skin ailment.

There are several sub-categories of Keratosis Pilaris and they include:-
Keratosis Pilaris Alba, appearing as rough dry skin without irritation.
Keratosis Pilaris Rubra, showing red, inflamed bumps.
Keratosis Pilaris Rubra Faciei, appearing as a red rash on the cheeks, and often confused with rosacea.
Keratosis Pilaris Atrophicans Faciei, where facial follicles atrophy (waste away) leaving small scar like depressions, similar to acne or chicken pox scars.

It has been stated by standard medical practitioners that Keratosis Pilaris is incurable, since currently available pharmaceutical treatments and products may only improve the appearance and suppleness of the skin, or at worst, cover it up. Among treatment options are products containing vitamin A, Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid and Urea, all of which are mild peeling agents, exfoliants, microdermabrasion and various scar treatments, but there are alternatives. Many have tried shea butter and other skin products, without resolution, and the results may be only temporary. Some cases are known to clear spontaneously without treatment, but these are in the minority. It is suggested that Colloidal Silver may well be worth a try, since it has been seen successful in the treatment of eczema and psoriasis.

The best answer to treating Keratosis is to turn to someone who has successfully treated this condition. One such person is Jennifer Richards, who has produced a remarkable guide which tells her story of living with KP and how she cured herself once and for all using natural ingredients and techniques. How To Remove Pimples: Easy Ideas For Pimple-free Skin Part 1

August 31, 2010 by

Admit it; there is nothing pleasant about a pimple. And a pimple that lingers for days on end adds insult to injury.
So what can be done to get rid of the pesky zits with as little effort as possible while also getting the best possible results?

Thats an easy one, especially if the following steps are followed as diligently as possible.

Washing helps. Its important that gentle face washing occur twice a day with a mild soap and water since cleanliness is a great first line of attack. While some acne is due to biologic or hereditary factors, the practice of keeping your face clean will eliminate any doubt about this being a contributing cause to your plight.

Eliminate stress. Some recent studies are indicating that stress does play a role in acne breakouts; but what is most unsettling about this research is that having pimples causes stress, and stress can cause pimples! So, to break the cycle its best to eliminate or reduce stress wherever possible.

Check your cosmetics and cleansers. Since the cause of pimples and acne can be linked directly to clogged pores, its vitally important that all skin cleansers and cosmetics be noncomedogenic, which is a fancy way of saying they wont clog pores! Check your labels and make adjustments in product selections where needed.

Do not squeeze regardless of the temptation. It can be tough to resist, but squeezing or popping pimples does little more than force the contents of the pimple deeper into the skin which in turn can cause additional inflammation and even scarring. If an outbreak is bothersome, try applying some ice wrapped in a soft cloth to the area to ease inflammation and irritation. Rather than risk injury to skin, use a noncomedogenic concealing product if you must have coverage during an outbreak, but it is far preferred that the affected area be left uncovered and allowed to breathe.

The role diet can play. While there is no evidence that diet plays any role in the cause of acne or pimples, a healthy eating plan can help eliminate one known contributor, and thats stress (which has already been mentioned). If there are certain foods that you believe seem to worsen your pimples, then by all means avoid them and substitute them with healthier choices. And dont forget that drinking a lot of water is good for you on so many levels.

The sun in moderation. While there is no proven science behind the effects of sunlight on acne, some individuals believe that small amounts of sunlight helps their outbreaks. If this is the case with you, then enjoy the sunshine; but also remember that it is not a proven treatment and that sun exposure increases the risk of skin cancer.

Keep in mind that there are many topical gel and cream treatments that play a role in the war on pimples and they may be worth your investigation to find out which works best for you.

Obtaining Acne Treatment Prescription

August 30, 2010 by

There are people who suffer from acne so severe that they have to consult specialists. They consult with dermatologists who are the experts in the treatment of skin diseases. During the consultation, the dermatologist will usually prescribe medicine that is intended to cure the acne problem.

Today, there is a wide array of medicines that are prescribed to cure acne. While there are other methods of treating acne, most medicines are dabbed on the affected skin. Aside from the direct application method, another way of acne treatment is by taking medicines orally. For people who have severe acne problems, this is good news as it improves their chances of getting cured of their disease.

Therapy is also used by dermatologist to facilitate the cure and recovery of the patient. For dermatologists to use therapy the acne would have worsened so much and there is no positive reaction to the traditional method of treatment.

Acne can also be treated with drugs that can be taken through the mouth. These oral medicines are antibiotics and are usually taken daily or on a regular basis. Severe cases will require initial heavy dosages, to be phased out depending on the speed of improvement of the disease.

Another form of treating acne is by injection. Injection is used when acne is in an advanced state; it also minimizes the possibility of leaving tell-tale marks. Administering medicine by injection is usually the mode of treatment of acne in worst-case scenarios especially when other treatments are proving to be ineffective.

Rightly or wrongly, some women use oral contraceptives to manage their acne. Oral contraceptives have hormonal effect on women and will decrease the possibility of them getting acne. This will benefit women who while taking contraceptive are at the same time doing something for their acne problem. Oral contraceptives have different side effects on women, and it can happen that it will not help their acne problem at all.

Some creams and ointment also was proven to be effective when used as acne treatment. These can be bought as beauty products or as prescription medicine. Creams and ointments that are more intense need to be prescribed and can be acquired only at higher cost. Prescription medications are usually used only in the treatment of hard cases of acne.

The person who has acne will have to decide for himself if it is time to get professional help. Their instinct should be able to tell them when it is time to go and seek medical attention.

Make Sure That Your Acne Medication Is Safe

August 29, 2010 by

Many people will regularly take medicine with little or no consideration of the safety of the medicine, or even any possible reactions that their body may have to it. Some medicines including those bought over the counter and those prescribed by a doctor may have risks for the health of the patient.

These risks can be anything from irritated skin to serious problems requiring hospital treatment. Acne medications are not any different, and need to be used in a responsible way and chosen carefully.

Prior to purchasing or using acne medicines, it is a good idea to ensure that you’ve read the instructions on the packet to see if there are any warning notices.

Additionally, you should follow carefully all of the usage instructions on the leaflet or packaging. When using the product, for safety reasons you should never deviate from these instructions.

When planning on using acne treatments such as lotions or creams, you should test them on a small area of your skin before applying to the rest of your skin. If you don’t have any problems with irritated skin on the area which you tested on, it is ok to use it everywhere else.

It isn’t just important to test out new topical acne medications, you should do this with medications which you have used before. This is because products will sometimes cause no irritation, then after a break in their use may start to cause irritation.

When selecting a treatment for your acne, it is best to opt for the one with the least chance of having side effects. It is important that the acne medication does not cause irritation to your skin, and choosing the treatment with the least chance of side effects will make problems less likely.

In common with non-acne medicines, certain acne treatments can be more prone to causing side effects than others. Find out all the possible side effects of the various acne treatments before choosing one to use.

When you purchase over the counter treatments, do not use any which appear to be tampered with or which have been opened. Check that all seals are intact, or if the packaging isn’t sealed, consider buying some online where it is less likely to have been opened by people trying it out.

This article is intended to provide information, it is not a substitute for professional medical advice from a doctor or dermatologist. See a medical professional and they will help to find the right treatment for your acne.

Pampering Yourself At A Day Spa

August 28, 2010 by

Some days I sometimes feel that I need a day to just pamper myself. You know what I’m talking about, ladies? Going to a day spa can be just what the doctor ordered. Here are my favorite spa treatments, in no particular order.

The Massage – Massages are one of the most amazing things in the world. They are found in almost every spa in the world, and the reason is because they are very effective in easing stress. They are relaxing and almost everyone loves how it makes them feel.

There are many types of massages that people can choose to do. They can relieve physical ailments or problems as well. When a massage is done right, your body can get detoxified and rejuvenated.

The Facial – Facials are another popular treatment that I recommend. Steam is used, peels, masks, and lotions are used to rejuvenate your face and give your skin a healthy glow. There are specialized facials as well that can help with specific skin conditions, such as treating acne or dead skin.

The Body Wrap – The body wrap works great with detoxifying your body. You simply wrap your body in a natural substance to detoxify your body. These natural substances vary from spa to spa, but seaweed is always a popular choice.

Aromatherapy – Aromatherapy is becoming more and more popular in spas. It is an effective treatment with soothing and aiding the body. It can be used as part of the massage, or essential oils can be added to damp towels and wrapped around the body.

Microdermabrasion – This is a new treatment I have discovered. Basically, the treatment removed the top, outermost layer of your dead skin so your skin has a chance to rejuvenate and breathe. Old skin makes it hard for newer skin to breathe. It is important to remove old skin so you can have healthy, glowing skin.

While all of these treatments are fabulous, they can get quite expensive. If you need a quick pick-me-up consider doing your own homemade spa. Soap making is one way to create soap that is gentle on your skin. Soap making also allows you to have creativity with your own soap that also exfoliates. Soap making also gives you the opportunity to find natural, organic ingredients that are safe for your skin.

Fraxel Systems For Scar Removal And Skin Resurfacing

August 26, 2010 by

The Fraxel laser is distributed by Solta Medical located in California. There are presently 3 Fraxel systems in the cosmetic market: the Fraxel Refine, Fraxel Restore and Fraxel Repair. These systems similarly target fractions of the skin with every treatment at different depths in the skin to correct different concerns.

The Fraxel Refine has a 1410 nm wavelength. The treatment gently resurfaces the skin for those who have minimal skin damage. Although the system is gentle enough to offer a successful skin rejuvenation treatment, it is still able to penetrate to 650 microns. There is very little to no downtime with this procedure.

The Fraxel Restore is a deep penetrating 1550 nm laser which is an Erbium fiber laser. It is has become widely used for the treatment of acne scars or any type of textural damage to the skin, photo damage, melasma and in some cases actinic keratosis. The Fraxel Restore treatment usually requires topical numbing to the skin for 30 minutes to 1 hour. The treatment produces thousands of deep columns of coagulated skin tissue which is referred to as micro-thermal injury zones in the skin. Multiple passes are applied over a given area in order to ensure even coverage. Erythema will be present on the skin as well as swelling to the area. Post treatment the skin will feel tight and hot as heat dissipates from the skin for 1 to 2 hours post treatment. Cooling with cold compresses is recommended to cope with any discomfort. The days following treatment, the small micro-thermal injury zones will begin to looks like bronzing to the skin. This small injury zones with crust off and skin exfoliation may follow. The number of treatments required would depend greatly on the skin concern being address however typically 3 to 6 sessions are required at 6 to 8 week intervals.

The Fraxel Repair is CO2 laser which penetrates 10 600 nm. It is used for deep wrinkles, Rhytides, Pigmented lesions, furrows in lax skin, Textural irregularities, and Vascular dyschromia. Normally 7 to 10 days of downtime is expected following treatment. The concept is similar to the fraxel refine and fraxel restore however the application is with a CO2 laser which penetrates much deeper. Due to the intensity of this treatment, normally 1 or 2 sessions would be sufficient for satisfying results.
